John Whelton Obituary

John "Jack" E. Whelton, 88, a resident of Easton for the past 32 years, formerly of Quincy and Brockton, passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018, at Good Samaritan Medical Center, after a period of failing health. He was the devoted husband of Marian B. (Lombardo) Whelton for over 40 years. Born in Boston, a son of the late Alfred D. and Katherine (Skinner) Whelton, he was raised in North Quincy. A triple eagle, he graduated from Boston College High School, received a bachelors degree from Boston College and earned his law degree from Boston College Law School. Jack began his professional career with the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and operated a private legal practice. Later he took a position as a lawyer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Land Court in Boston where he was employed for 23 years. Jack was a longtime columnist for the Easton Journal and received an honorary award from the New England Press Association for writing. A communicant of Holy Cross Church in Easton he enjoyed golfing, and writing. In addition to his wife Marian, he is survived by a sister, Barbara T. Francis and her husband John; his brother-in-law, John Lombardo; his niece, Donna MacLean and her husband Kevin; and his nephew, Marc Lombardo and his wife Karen; several loving nieces and nephews in Florida and his special family, the Gravels of North Carolina. He was also the brother of the late Alfred Whelton, Marie Whelton; and step-brother of Beatrice "Betty" Gravel. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday morning from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 605 Washington Street (Rte. 138), Easton, followed by a funeral Mass in the Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase Street, Easton, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jacks memory may be sent to Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase Street, Easton, MA 02375. For directions or condolences, www.kanefuneralhome.com.

Dear Marion, I am so sorry for Jacks passing he was a real fighter, but I think of him in heaven standing tall and able to hear the birds and able to be pain free. May he R.I.P. Love Susan (dining room)
