Lois E. (Palmer) Wells, age 79, of North Easton, died unexpectedly at her home Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013. She was the wife of the late J. Willard Bill Wells. Born May 21, 1934, in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Mauritz and Hazel (Asker) Palmer. Lois was a 1952 graduate of Brockton High School, where she served on the reunion committee for several years. She was the first female Deputy Sheriff in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and had worked as a court officer for 30 years. She retired 11 years ago as Assistant Chief Court Officer in Plymouth Superior Court in Brockton. She was also past president of the Emblem Club and was active at Trinity Baptist Church and Easton Baptist Church serving on many committees. She is survived by two sons, Mark F. Wells and his wife Deborah of North Easton and Scott M. Wells, Esq., of Washington, DC; two much loved grandsons, Mark Wells Jr. and Jacob Wells; a special niece, Nadine Nelson of South Easton; and a sister, Lucille Taylor. She was also the sister of the late Gordon Palmer and Phyllis Nelson. A private family burial was held in Melrose Cemetery in Brockton. A public memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at 4 p.m. in the Easton Baptist Church, 197 Bay Road, North Easton. Visitation from 3:15- 4.
