Francis E. "Leppy" Leporati, Jr., age 76, of Framingham, died Wednesday January 16, 2013 at the Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham. He was the husband of 54 years to his high school sweetheart, Shirley (Kelley) Leporati. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Francis E. Leporati, Sr. and Josephine (Orazi) Leporati. He was a 1954 graduate of Framingham High School. He was a rifleman in the U.S. Marine Corp. Sgt. Leporati was stationed in the Mediterranean from 1956 until 1959 where he took part in the first landing exercise in history which a force of such magnitude was landed by helicopters from bases on U.S. Navy Aircraft Carriers many miles at sea as a member of the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines. He was also awarded the good conduct medal. Upon his discharge, Mr. Leporati worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. In 1961, he joined the Framingham Fire Dept where he became one of the first EMTs. He was instrumental along with two fellow EMT's in bringing the first ambulance to the Framingham Fire Dept. He was a graduate of the first class of EMT Intermediates in 1984 to bring the ambulance service to the advanced level. He retired in 1991 following 30 years of service. He was a member of the National and State EMT Assoc., Framingham Lodge of Elks, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Callahan Senior Center and Framingham Council on Aging. He enjoyed golfing all his adult life, first with his firefighter brothers across the country and then with his Natick Elks friends. He also enjoyed hosting weekend cookouts during the summer at his pool for over 40 years. In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by his brothers Michael Leporati and his wife Terese and Mark Leporati and his wife Paula; his nieces Sharon Mercorelli, Diane MacDonald and her husband Stephen, Michele Madaris and her husband Cory, Lauren Martin and her husband James and Melissa Leporati. He is also survived by his sister in law Rita King and his brother in law Francis Kelley. He leaves a great nephew Brayden Martin. He was the brother of the late Judith Mercorelli-Horsley. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at 9 AM from the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech St. (Corner of Union Ave.) Framingham, followed by his funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. George Church, 75 School St., Framingham. Burial will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fenwick St., Framingham. Visiting hours at the funeral home are Monday from 4-7 PM.
