Stephen W. Keene

Stephen W. Keene of Georgetown died unexpectedly at Anna Jaques Hospital on Sunday morning, July 14, 2013. He grew up in Greenfield, MA. He was a graduate of Deerfield Academy (1957), Yale University (1961) and Cornell Law School (1964). Most of his working career was as an attorney and later, Corporate Secretary for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Boston, MA. When he retired, he pursued his long-held interests in the arts (architecture, design, photography, music, and antiques), nature and sports. Many of Steves interests and his computer skills found a perfect outlet in the Georgetown Historical Society where, as the Curator, he worked timelessly to identify, document, and record Georgetown history and artifacts. At the time of his death, he was still adding to the extensive data base he had created. His family and those who knew Steve will miss his loyalty, sense of humor, kindness, intellect, enthusiasm and love of technical gadgets. Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, M. Margaret (Meany) Keene; his sister-in-law Elizabeth Meany Dudley; two nephews Orie L. Dit Dudley, III and Nathan E. Dudley and their families. A private celebration of Steves life will be held at a later date.
