Warren Rockwell Obituary
Warren Francis Rockwell, 72, of Topsfield, loving companion of Dinah Torrey of Topsfield, died Monday, June 25 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Topsfield, he was the son of the late Warren Francis and Helen (Hebb) Rockwell. Warren was raised in Topsfield and was a Class of 1957 graduate of Topsfield High School. An outstanding athlete, "Rocky" was considered one of the most gifted competitors to hail from Topsfield. He was known throughout Essex County for his pitching skills with the Inter-Town Twilight League and set basketball records during his high school career. Warren played basketball for the University of Tennessee Volunteers and in later years was an active tennis player, runner and avid fan of Southeastern Conference sports. His passion for sports was channeled into volunteering and coaching at the West End House in Alston-Brighton, where he lived for many years and made life-long friends. His commitment to guiding and advising young people with wit and wisdom and his positive impact on the lives of many will be remembered. An entrepreneur and businessman, Warrens professional endeavors were varied and included careers in travel, advertising and public relations. He was active in the early years of promotion and endorsement as a facet of the sports management industry and he enjoyed close friendships with many of the eras professional athletes. After returning to Topsfield, Warren devoted himself to writing five novel and was a voracious reader, student of history and talented gardener. Warren is also survived by his brother Philip L. Rockwell and his wife Cynthia of Canton, Conn., niece Siobhan Fennelly of Lutz, Fla., and many close cousins. He leaves many dear friends who were at the center of his life, including his oldest childhood friend A. Belman Carter of Topsfield, Randy Franklin of Atlanta and Dave Callens of Fillmore, California. ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral service will be held graveside at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield, Tuesday, July 10th 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends invted.
