Connie Thayer

Connie Thayer, of Hyannis, passed away gracefully with her family and caregivers by her side March 16, 2013. She had a zest for life and enjoyed those around her until her very last day. She was predeceased by her loving husband Arthur in 2009. Concetta Georgia Favitta was born Jan. 11, 1932, into a large Sicilian family. Her first grade teacher called her Connie and that became the name she preferred. She loved to retell stories of days long ago, growing up in Brooklyn with her seven sisters and brothers, her favorite pets, Walfred, Benji and Tony, summers vacationing in Pocasset, when the children were small, winters in North Conway and many other family adventures and memories. Their romance began at the iconic Roseland Ballroom in 1952; Connie and Arthur wed soon after and enjoyed 56 years of marriage. Early in her marriage, Connie was a retail salesperson with Lightolier in New York City and later, after moving to Brockton, she was employed by Centre Furniture and Storeys Womens Clothing where she was appreciated for her good taste. Connie loved her family and devoted herself to the care of her husband and her home; she was proud to be a traditional wife. She was a wonderful cook and her children are grateful to have her recipes for her Italian specialties and her delicious Thanksgiving gravy. Connie was a smart dresser who took pride in her appearance; she was especially neat and organized. In her later years Connie enjoyed caring for her beautiful yard and garden, decorating with silk flowers and acrylic painting. She also believed that just about anything could be improved with some gold spray paint. Connie leaves her daughter, Diane, spouse Lenore Lyons of Centerville; and son, Michael, spouse Pamela of Attleboro; and four grandchildren, Jesse (Luisa) and Rya Lyons and Alexander and Julie Thayer. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marguerite Thayer, niece Jennifer and nephew Jeffrey of Sandwich as well as many relatives in New York and New Jersey. Her family is grateful for the loving care she received at the Memory Care Neighborhood of Emeritus and especially the kind attention from all the nursing assistants, nurses and Onelia McNamara and Mimi Brickley.
