Mrs. Adele (Wiles) (Kew) Hildick, 82, died quietly at home, surrounded by her family, on 29 Sep 2013. She was the wife of Richard W. Hildick for almost 18 years. Adele was born 27 Oct 1930 in Wellfleet, a 10th generation Cape Codder, the younger daughter of Leroy Bartlett Wiles and Esther Reed Baker. She graduated from Wellfleet High School in 1948, followed by Vermont College and West Virginia Wesleyan College, earning a math degree. In 1953, she married Harold W. Kew of Wellfleet, and they raised their four children in Wellfleet and Orleans. She returned to work when the children were in school, working as a bookkeeper until retiring in 1995. She was an active member of the Orleans Methodist Church for 55 years, where she sang in the choir and served on the board of directors for many years. She also spent countless hours handcrafting items for Church fairs, and knitting and quilting for the family. Adele took the children camping for many years, usually to Nickerson State Park, but also to Montreal for Expo67. They continue to bore their own children with stories of a wonderful camping trip across the country in 1969. She continued to travel later, with friends, and to visit her peripatetic children. Most recently, Adele and Dick traveled together in Canada and Europe. Mrs. Hildick is survived by her husband, Richard W. Hildick; her children, David Kew of Worcester, Dana Kew of Orleans, Susan Brueckner Long of Hudson NH, Cynthia Baker of Lebanon CT; step-daughters Robin Clifford of Delray Beach FL and Susan Weckman of Naugatuck CT; her sister, Mrs. Marjorie Sayre of Miami; 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Services were held on Wednesday, 2 Oct, at the Orleans United Methodist Church.
