Elizabeth (Betsy) Catlin died peacefully at Eagle Pond Traditional Care and Rehabilitation Center in South Dennis on Monday afternoon from complications of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease after years of debilitating sickness. Betsy was the wife of John (Jack) D. Catlin for 60 years. Betsy and Jack were high school sweethearts, and Jack remained by her side as her principal and faithful caregiver during her years of declining health and mobility. Betsy was the daughter of Arthur R. Winters and Rebecca M. Winters. Born in Utica, New York, Betsy grew up in Clinton, NY and in Easton, PA, where her father was the football coach at Hamilton College and then at Lafayette College. Betsy remained an avid sports fan throughout her life. She attended Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA and worked in the alumni offices of both Wilson and Lafayette Colleges. In 1971, she and her family moved to the Community of Jesus, an ecumenical Benedictine Community, in Orleans, Cape Cod, making her solemn profession in May of 1977. She remained an active member until her death. Betsy sang in the Glori Dei Cantores, the Communitys professional choir; was a member of the Spirit of America Marching Band; was a spiritual mentor for numerous people who came for help; worked in the Community office; was the first Community archivist, and expressed her vibrant faith in Jesus Christ in many other ways. Betsy is survived by two sons, Robert A. Catlin of Raleigh, North Carolina, and John C Catlin of Waltham, Massachusetts, three grandchildren, and one great-grandson. The funeral service will be held at the Church of the Transfiguration at the Community of Jesus on Thursday, May 8 at 11 AM.
