George Weber Kirchner, 92, died on June 30, 2018 at home in Carver. He was a graduate of the Universities of Kentucky and Illinois and a lifelong UK sports fan. Formerly of Harwich and Eastham, he taught American History and coached basketball and tennis in Harwich for 30 years. Prior to moving to the Cape, he coached football at the American High Schools in Yokohama and Kyoto, Japan and Frankfurt, Germany, where his teams were largely undefeated and won a series of USAREUR championships under his leadership. George is survived by his wife Janet (Guild) Kirchner of Carver; daughters Holly Goulet of Concord, MA (Brian Schoenherr) and grandchildren Nicolas, Thomas and Alexandra Goulet, and Heidi Rock of Harwich, MA; stepchildren Daniel Huckins (Erica) of Norton and Martha Herzer (Mark) of Telford, PA, and their five children and three grandchildren; sister Donna Gambrell of Honea Path, SC and three nieces. An informal celebration of life will be held at Chatham Creative Arts Center, 154 Crowell Road, Chatham, MA on Saturday, September 8 from 2-4 PM. Donations may be made to the George Kirchner Memorial Scholarship (c/o Cape Cod Five, 532 Main Street, Harwich Port, MA 02646).
