Rauni Siekkinen Swan was born October 20, 1928 in Marquette Michigan. She lived with her parents close to the shores of Lake Superior, it was here that her love of living by the water began. The 1930s brought the Great Depression and her parents decided to move back to Finland from where they had emigrated years earlier. Rauni went to school in Finland for two years after which her parents decided to move back to the USA to New York City in 1938. She enrolled i n the Richmond High School and graduated with honors. While at that school she made lifelong friends with Alice Helms and Ellie Hynna. She went on to become a secretary at the US News and World Report. In 1949 she me t her future husband Ed Swan and they married in 1951 on the TV show Bride and Groom. They moved to Mt. Kisco in 1958 with their four year old son Ken, and one year old daughter Lyn. They lived there on the shores of Croton Lake Reservoir for 28 years during which Rauni worked part time as a secretary to writer James Stewart Gordon and film maker Pare Lorentz. In the 1960s and 70s the Swans vacationed on Cape Cod and thought it would be a wonderful place to live. In 1980 they bought their Brewster home on Long Pond and moved there in 1984. Rauni always had a knack of making friends quickly and soon was involved with the Meals On Wheels Program at the Brewster Senior Center. She was a wonderful homemaker and in her spare time sewed beautiful quilts. She maintained her relationships with friends scattered across the United States and in Finland. Rauni will be greatly missed by husband Ed, son Ken, daughter Lyn, daughter-in-law Eileen and her two loving granddaughters Lara and Hanah. A memorial service will take place on November 16th at 11:00 am at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldridge Parkway, Orleans, MA 02653.
