Edwin Franklin Souther, 87, of Hingham, passed away peacefully at home April 16, 2013, surrounded by his family. Husband for over 63 years to Mary E. (Dunn) Souther, Ed is survived by his eight children, Charles and his wife Paula of Hingham, Anne Ciovacco and her husband Walter of Hingham, John of Norwell, James and his partner Paul of New York, Virginia (Ginger) Baxter and her husband Dana of Hingham, Karen Ohrenberger and her husband Michael of Pembroke, Ted and his wife Susan of Hingham and Carolyn Kelley and her husband William of Norwell. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Worsh of Duxbury; 23 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A lifelong resident of Hingham, Ed was retired from the Hingham Police Department after serving 33 years and was a World War II Navy veteran. A dedicated family man, he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He accomplished his goal of going to Disney World with every one of his grandchildren and their families. A funeral service was conducted Friday, April 19, at 10 a.m. at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham. Visitation was held at the Downing Chapel Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Hingham Center Cemetery.
