Marian Louise Young Folkins, a resident of Linden Ponds in Hingham, passed away on May 24, 2013 at the age of 98. Marian was born in Chautaugua County, New York, on May 27, 1914. She was the tenth child of John and Effie Young. Marian was a 1935 graduate of the Womens Christian Association Hospital School of Nursing in Jamestown, New York. She married Mial C. Folkins in 1936 and continued her nursing career until the birth of their first daughter. As a loving wife and mother, she devoted herself to caring for her family. She was a talented seamstress, an avid golfer, and an accomplished bridge player. Marian and Mial were long-time residents of West Hartford, Connecticut, and after her husbands retirement, they moved to Mashpee, Massachusetts, to pursue their interest in golfing. They were active members of the community becoming involved as volunteers in many civic organizations. In 1991 she and her husband were honored as Mashpees Senior Citizens of the Year. They were married for 66 years until his passing in 2003. Since moving to Hingham, Marian has been an active member of the First Baptist Church of Hingham. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at the First Baptist Church, Hingham, MA at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, June 15, 2013. Marian is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Janet and Philip S. Carter of Hingham, Massachusetts; Carol and David B. Pye of Orlean, Virginia; and Barbara and Roy E. Colmer of Leesburg, Florida; eight grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
