Colby T. Linscott, 79, of Hingham, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2014. He was the son of the late Alfred C. and Frances I. (Terry) Linscott; husband of the late Helena F. (Yashtinsky) Linscott; and father of the late Christina A. Linscott. Colby leaves behind his children, Michael F. Linscott of Hingham, Edward C. Linscott of West Haven, Conn., Joseph A. Linscott of Plymouth, and Stacy J. Varao of Plymouth. He also says good-bye to his grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah, Michael, Joseph, Allison, and Jessica; and great-grandson, Kaleb. Colby was a lifelong resident of Hingham, with direct lineage reaching back to the earliest settlers of the town in 1635. Although he mainly worked as a truck driver, his true calling was to the fire department. He started as a subcall firefighter for Hingham Fire Department at only 18 years old. From there, Colby became a permanent call firefighter for the department and went on to serve the town for 39 years. He had a lifetime of love for the Hingham Fire Department and his colleagues. He was a family oriented man, with family gatherings being some of his favorite times. Colby truly loved his town, taking part in civic affairs, and also enjoyed music in his downtime. Visiting hours for Colby were held at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham, Wednesday, August 13, from 4-8 p.m. A funeral service will follow August 14 at the funeral home at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bare Cove Fire Museum, 45 Bare Cove Park Drive, Hingham, MA 02043.
