Dwight W. A. Chewy Demilt of Holbrook, formerly of Nebraska, passed away after a period of failing health, June 26, 2013, at the age of 59. Beloved husband of Barbara S. (Howell) Demilt, he was the loving father of Lori A. McAlpine and her husband David of Whitman, Daniel W. and Derek A. Demilt both of Holbrook; dear son of Von D. and Cynthia (Emerson) Demilt both of Neb.; devoted brother Charlotte Corn, Michael Demilt, Steve Demilt, and Jim Demilt all of Neb., and Debbie Scott of Idaho; dear Papa to Sean, Lilly, Derek Jr., Kyle, Colin, and Madison. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Dwight was born in N. Platte, Neb., where he grew up and lived until he entered the service. He served in the U.S. Navy, aboard the destroyer USS Basilone, during the Vietnam War. He had lived in Holbrook for the past 35 years. He was foreman and ship restorer at the Charlestown Naval Ship Yard, where he had worked aboard the USS Constitution for the past 30 years. His greatest joy was spending time hanging out with his family, especially the grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin St. (Rte. 37), Holbrook. Visiting hours were held Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
