Armand Lessa Obituary

Armand Eddie E. Lessa, 90, a longtime resident of Stoughton, was called to rest on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014 from the West Acres Nursing Home in Brockton. Armand was born on Feb. 5, 1924 in New Bedford, Mass. to the late Antone Lessa and Angelina (Barros). He was raised in Stoughton and lived there his entire life. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Sept. 18, 1942 and was proud and honored to have served his country for four years as a Boatswain Mate 1st Class aboard LST 720 in the Asiatic-Pacific theater and the European-African-Mediterranean theater. Eddie owned his own business, Fashion Floors in Stoughton center in the late 50s and continued working in that field with Moran Floorcraft and Paramount Rug companies until his retirement in the 80s. He was a lifelong member of the Portuguese National Club and was also a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed following the Red Sox, fishing and playing Sueca, but he was most happy being with his family and vacationing with his children and grandchildren, especially by the sea. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife Priscilla (Beals); his dear brothers Tony and Joseph and his sister Laura Saints. He is survived by his loving children Donna Centamore and her husband Stephen of Brockton, Debra DiCenso and her husband Peter of Easton, David and his wife Nancy (Brennick) of FL, Diane Saltzman and her husband Lance of RI and Daniel and his wife Penny (Sawyer) of Pocasset, his nine adoring grandchildren, Lisa and Michael Centamore, Robert and Nichole DiCenso, Megan, Kerri, and Christopher Lessa, and Jake and Justin Saltzman. He was blessed to know 11 great-grandchildren, Colin Soucie, Carly and Joseph Sinkiewicz, and Grace Centamore, Finley and Beau Tammaro, and Robbie Allen, and Tinsley and Belle Lessa, Ronan Saltzman and Mackenzie DiCenso. He was the brother of Donald Lessa of Stoughton and Donaldo Lewis of N.C. He was survived by many nieces and nephews. His infectious smile and high moral standards will be sadly missed by all. Funeral was held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours was on Monday, Sept. 8, from 4 - 7 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Not sure what to say?

Sorry to be so late in offering our sincere sympathy to cousin Donna and the entire Lessa family... (After experiencing several weeks of illness and related hardships ourselves, we just verified that Eddy had passed away last month.)

While I will respond more fully at a later time, please know that I will always consider it a blessing and a providential opportunity to have seen him and prayed over him at Lincoln Nursing Home....

My fond memories of him at Beals family gatherings - especially his fascinating and thoughtful perceptions on the latest historical novels he had read - were just a few things I will always personally recall about this wonderful man.

Dear Lessa Cousins,
My deepest sympathy in the loss of your Dad. It's a loss for all who knew and loved him. I will always remember Uncle Eddie's warmth, big heart, and laughter. He was funny, sweet and kind. He seemed to have a constant twinkle in his eye which was usually followed by a one-liner or witty comment, especially during our family gatherings. Uncle Eddie always made me feel as though he loved and cared. I will dearly miss him.

I'm sorry that I just found out about Mr. Lessa today. I would have really loved to attend the calling hours and see the Lessa family again. As many of the folks who have left beautiful testimonies of Mr Lessa, I too have many warm memories back in the 70's being at the Lessa home as Dave was one of the best friends I ever had. And what a love filled home it was. Thanks to the character of Mr. Lessa, your entire family all turned out to be wonderful people. My warmest wishes to Donna, Debbie, Dave, Diane and Danny. You, your spouses and your many children will be in my prayers this week.

Every Christmas Judy and I relate how we spent Christmas Eve at the Lessa house in Stoughton. Mr. Lessa was as nice of a man as you could want to know. He always greeted us with a smile and a hug for Judy (and the girls as they grew up). Our condolences to the family. John and Judy McArdle.

Dear Cousins,
It is with great suddenness that I learned of the passing of Uncle Eddie. He always struck me as a man that was "larger than life". Memories of his booming voice and sparkling sense of humor will remain with me forever. Unsung heroes like your father, are what made his generation the "Greatest Generation".

We are very sad to hear of the loss of our dear friend Mr. Lessa. May he rest in peace. The PNC will never be the same without him. When he walked into the club his famous line was "ANY TWO". We will miss this a lot. Our prayers and thoughts are with you during this sad time...Mary and Jordan Correia

Dear Cousins,

My family and I are deeply sorry to hear of the passing of Uncle Eddie.

Your father's wit and sense of humor will long be remembered, as will the warmth of your dad and my mother telling their childhood stories, bringing themselves and the entire room to joyous laughter.

We will also long remember Uncle Eddie's unwavering principles and high moral standards. Your father was truly an example of how to spend a long life well lived.

We hope that the knowledge that your father was so respected and loved by his extended family brings you some small measure of comfort and peace in these difficult days. -- Love, Cousin Sheldon Saints and family.

Dear Lessa cousins and children, Our hearts and love go out to you. Since the age of 7, our fathers were best friends in Stoughton. It is truly amazing they both lived until 90+ years old and left this earth together just 2-1/2 months apart. We have had shared SO many happy memories together throughout the years especially at the Portuguese Club and Town Spa. Your dad left behind a legacy and I know you all will carry on his traditions. Much love to all of you. Cousin Shawna
