Alexander Pitcairn, Jr., 74, longtime resident of Linebrook Road, Ipswich, died Friday, February 28, 2014 in the Lahey Medical Center, Burlington following a long illness. Born January 3, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA son of the late Alexander and Ann G. (Clark) Pitcairn, He was raised in Ipswich and was a graduate of Viewpoint School in America, NY. Following his graduation he attended Wentworth Institute in Boston a student of engineering. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees serving in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Honorably discharged he returned to Ipswich to raise his family. For many years years he was employed as a builder / contractor, founder of the Paitcairn Construction in 1970. He enjoyed summers spent with his family at Lake Winnipesaukee and more recently with his grandchildren, family and friends building his dream retirement home in New Durham, NH. was an avid deer hunter, a member of the Agawam Pistol Club, the National Rifle A ssociation and was a longtime member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Topsfield. He will be remembered for his patriotic values and commitment to various charities. He is survived b y two sons, David A. Pitcairn and his wife Yvette of Ipswich, Douglas Banks Pitcairn of Portland, ME; two grandchildren, Madeline and Emily Pitcairn both of Ipswich; his former wife B arbara E. Banks of Ipswich; two nephews and five nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Ann Donovan formerly of Lynn and his best canine friend, C heyenne. His funeral service will be held 2 pm Saturday, March 8 in the Trinity Episcopal Church, Topsfield. Family and friends are cordially welcomed. Arrangements are under the direction o f the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
