Obituary Condolences

Miriam S. Bennett, 105, formerly of South Hamilton, died peacefully in her sleep March 12, 2014, as the oldest resident in the West Acres Nursing Home in Brockton. Prior to West Acres, Miriam had lived with her daughter in Bridgewater since 2003. Born in Rockport, July 5, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Henry A. and Myrtie V. (Dorman) Stone. She was educated in Ipswich Public Schools and was a 1925 graduate of Essex Agricultural School. Married in 1932, the Bennetts lived in Danvers for a short time before moving to South Hamilton where they lived for sixty-two years. In addition to her family, she enjoyed spending time at the beach, particularly West Beach in Beverly Farms where many family memories were made. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, making draperies and upholstering furniture, and made braided and hooked rugs. She was the wife of the late Arthur L. Bennett; and the mother of the late Arthur L. "Larry" Bennett Jr., formerly of Isle of Psalms, S.C., and Judith M. Thrasher, formerly of Reading. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara A. Chipman of Bridgewater and her husband Wilmon B. Chipman; as well as by her daughter-in-law, Pauline Flannagan of Isle of Palms, S.C. She is survived by nine grandchildren, Pamela Verhey of Rochester, N.Y., Paula Bennett of Charlotte, N.C., Kelley Parker of Savannah, Ga., Catherine Rost of Narragansett, R.I., Alison Bartone of Bristol, R.I., Edward Haley of N. Reading, J. Terence Chipman of Middleboro, Wilmon D. Chipman of Medford and Elizabeth C. Quinty of Shirley. She also leaves 19 great-grandchildren; and 3 great great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Her funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12, graveside in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Rockport. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
