Edward J. Toczylowski, 90, longtime resident of Topsfield Road and husband of Brenda L. (Townsend) Toczylowski, died Wednesday, April 23,2014 in the Beverly Hospital following a prolonged illness. He was the husband of the late Sophie (Bies) Toczylowski. Born in Lynn May 29, 1923 son of the late Walter and Alexandria (Ruthowski) Toczylowski, he was raised in Lynn and was a 1941 graduate of Lynn Classical High School. During World War II he served his enlistment with the U.S. Coast Guard having served in both the Pacific and European Theatres. Following his honorable discharge and first marriage, the Toczylowskis soon made their home in Ipswich. Mr. Toczylowski was employed for over thirty-five years as manager of the Combining Division of Star-Tex Industries of Lawrence and more recently was employed as a driver for Martin Distributors Beverage Co. from which he retired. He enjoyed his time traveling, having fun at the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos, small engine repair and seasonally maintaining his yard and garden. He was also an avid and faithful Red Sox and Patriots fan. Mr. Toczylowski was a member of the Ascension Memorial Church, Ipswich PLAV Post #92, American Legion Post #80, AMVETS Post #201 and VFW Post#1093. In addition to his wife Brenda of six years he is survived by a stepdaughter Rebecca Hanks, her husband Noah and their children Reese and Hailey Hanks all of Lawrence; two sisters, Ann Krzywicki of Wakefield, Florence Smith of Lynn; father-in-law John Townsend of Ipswich; seven nephews; ten nieces; best friend, Charles Zaccaria of Peabody and his caretaker, Doris Rivera of Gloucester. He was the brother of the late Joseph Toczylowski formerly of Michigan, Sophie Rydzewski formerly of Lynn and Frances Geddings formerly of S. Carolina. He also leaves his beloved little dog, Cookie. His funeral service will be held 11 am Monday, April 28 in the Ascension Memorial Church, 31 County St., Ipswich, followed by internment with Military Honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich.
