Reverend Joseph S. Lukas, age 90, of Braintree passed away on February, 26, 2013 at South Shore Hospital. Beloved brother of the late Mary Jamiol and Alice Lukas of Braintree, Nephews Leonard Jamiol of Braintree, Gregory Jamiol of Medford and niece Valerie Strazdas of Braintree. He was born in Waltham and raised in Boston. Agraduate of Boston College and St Johns Seminary he was ordained in 1946. He served as curate at St Marys Parish in Randolph, St John the Baptist Parish in Salem, St Hedwigs Parish in Cambridge and Holy Trinity Parish in Lowell. He was appointed Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Ipswich, where he remained until he retired. He also served as a US Navy Chaplain, attaining the rank of Commander. Fr. Lukas was laid in state at St. Clares Church, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree Highlands on Sunday March 3rd. from 4 to 7 P.M.. His funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Clares Church on Monday March 4th. at 11 A.M.. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Waltham. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on the anniversary of his birthday Saturday May 25th. at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Hope Church 54 Linebrook Road, Ipswich, all are respectfully invited to attend.
