Martha Mabee Obituary

Martha Blaisdell Mabee, age 94, passed away on July 22nd surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Irving H. Mabee. She was a graduate of Bates College and served as secretary of her class of 1942 for many years. A resident of Lexington, Massachusetts since 1945, she worked for the Lexington School Library system over a period of twelve years. She enjoyed doing volunteer work with the Lexington Historical Society and the Lexington Council on Aging where she worked in the library. For many years, she sang in the Lexington Choral Society and regularly participated in its annual Town Hall Messiah sing at Christmas time. After the death of her parents, Leo and Margaret Blaisdell, she managed the Blaisdell farm in Franklin, Maine for the enjoyment of her family and to preserve its heritage. A supporter of conservation groups, Martha loved the outdoors and enjoyed going on nature walks with family, playing tennis with friends, sailing the coasts of Massachusetts and Maine and laughing with one and all. She is survived by her four children and two of their spouses: Carleton Mabee of Kennebunkport, Maine and his wife Andrea; Marcia Mabee of Arlington, Virginia; Christine Faragher of Lexington, Massachusetts; Stephen Mabee of Amherst, Massachusetts and his wife Linda Todaro. She is also survived by four grandchildren and one step-grandchild: Joshua and Andrew Mabee; Caroline and Elizabeth Mabee and Susan Bell Queen. Marthas two sisters, Priscilla Blanshard of Seminole, Florida and Constance Nickerson and her husband David of Atlantic Beach, Florida also survive her. Martha was a gracious lady who always expressed interest in others. She was a beloved mother, sister and friend and a proud grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A service will be held at the Hancock United Church of Christ in Lexington, Massachusetts on August 15, 2015 at 2:00 PM. A reception will immediately follow the service at the church.
