Obituary Condolences

David William Cheever, 75 died peacefully with several of his family by his side on December 9, after a long battle with cancer. David was born in Hyannis, Mass. on June 13, 1938, the son of Wilbur and Edith Cheever. He is survived by his sister Edith Van Beek and brother Wilbur Cheever and wife Kathryn: his wife, Alba Luz, daughters, Vanessa, Christine and husband, David Pilar and a son, Daniel and his wife, Elisa. He had four grandchildren. David grew up in Lexington, where his father taught at Lexington High for many years. After graduating from Lexington High, he attended the University of Massachusetts and later got his Masters Degree from University of Colorado. He developed a strong interest in agriculture, at an early age. As a 4-H member, he won many awards exhibiting at shows. Later he specialized in floriculture. While a student at University of Colorado, he wrote a paper on the ideal climate for growing carnations. He was contacted by an investor in Colombia, SA, where these ideal conditions exist. He moved there with his family and started a carnation farm that began what has to become a major Colombian industry. In 2007 David was given a special award recognizing him for his very significant role in the development of floriculture. in Colombia.
