Han Herrmann, 83, died on May 20, 2012. A former Lexington resident, he moved to Woburn with his wife after suffering a stroke in December, 2007. Jan was born in Prague, Czech Republic, to a Czech mother and a Sudetan German father. He moved to Austria, acquired an Austrian citizenship and earned a PH.D in physics at the University of Vienna. His next stop before crossing the Atlantic to settle down in the Boston area was in Neuchatel (Switzerland) where he worked on atomic clocks. He had a long career as a physicist at Lincoln Laboratory of Lexington. He met his French wife when she had just arrived in Boston from Virginia where she had spent her first year in the United States teaching French in a College. He enjoyed fine foods, traveling, his vegetable garden and classical music. He was known for his dry wit. He is survived by his wife, Nicole (Tessier) Herrmann, his daughters Jeannette Sheahan and Sonia Holley and their husbands, his grandchildren Nolan and Tatum Holley, Bridget and Samantha Sheahan, his sister Kaja Autler and her children Lilian and Gerald Autler.
