Gerald J. LaPointe, 88, formerly of Townsend, died Sunday, May 11, 2014, at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley, Littleton. His wife, Patricia C. (Godfrey) LaPointe, died in March, 2005. Mr. LaPointe was born in Lowell, May 31, 1926, the son of Phebea and Eugenie (Tessier) LaPointe and resided in Charlestown, Salem, Townsend and Westford . For fifteen years, Mr. LaPointe worked in the maintenance department of the Westford Public Schools and was affectionately known as Papa Schmoo (Papa Smurf) while working at Westford Academy. Most of his early years he worked as a Dairyman / Pasteurizer and PurPak operator at Seven Oaks Dairy, Whitings Dairy, Bordens Ice Cream and Lowell Dairy. During WW II he served his country in the United States Army serving in the 10th Infantry as a Marksman. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and wildlife and was a talented carpenter. He greeted everyone he met as Pal and was always willing to help others. He leaves three daughters, Sandra M. Thompson of Westford, Linda M. and Chuck Swarms of Merrimac, Kimberley S. Fales of North Dartmouth; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn Fales and Amanda Fales of Townsend. Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
