Ruth I. Almstrom, of Chelmsford passed away Saturday, July 26 2014. er late parents, August and Astrid (Samuelsson) emigrated from Sweden, settling in Lowell, welcoming Ruth into the world in 1917.` She graduated from Lowell High School, where she was on the honor roll and a member of the Girls Officers Organization, serving as the 1st Major, an honor of which her father was so proud. Following graduation she went to Burdett College, earning a bachelors degree. She and her parents moved to Chelmsford where they lived out their lives. Ruth joined Lowell Electric Light on Market St. in Lowell. She quickly advanced and ended up as the chief secretary for the head electrical engineer of the entire northeaset district. She retired when she was 65 with 45 years with the same company. Following her retirement Ruth traveled extensively throughout Europe, Barbados, and to her beloved Sweden. Always active, she worked at Parlees Farm in Chelmsford, first picking strawberries, then as she got older, selling the baskets, delighting in watching all the Parlee children grow up, and enjoying her friendship with Muriel and Ralph. She was a member of the former Covenant Congregational Church in Lowell, the Round Table at the Chelmsford Senior Center. The Middlesex Womens Club, serving as President for a number of years, and a longtime member of the Chelmsford Garden Club, She also worked at the Chelmsford Media Center, where she learned to operate the cameras and the subject of the show Travels with Regina, which featured Christmas in Sweden. Ruth enjoyed doing craftwork for church functions and created stained glass windows and lamps and beautiful oil and watercolor paintings. In the last few years she was active helping in the Lasagna Ministry at St. Johns, decorating cupcakes for Lowell Transitional Center monthly dinner. She was an amazing woman who lived a full and productive 97 years. She will be missed by her friends of all ages. Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD on Thursday from 12 until 1 pm followed by her Funeral Service at 1 oclock at the funeral home. Interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruths name to the Lowell Humane Society, 951 Broadway St., Lowell, MA 01854. Funeral Director, Paul A.
