Rosalie DeMasse

Rosalie Marion Messina DeMasse born June 27, 1921, died April 1, 2013. She was conceived in Palermo, Sicily but was born in Brooklyn, NY. She came through Ellis Island on the Dante Alighieri on Dec. 2, 1920 with her father Paulo, mother Marion, and brothers Mike and Frank. Her mother was 3 months pregnant with her on the trip over. The family settled in Everett Ma. After graduating from Everett High School she worked at the Manton Gaulin Maufacturing Co. in Everett. Thats where she met the smooth-talking, good-looking Tony Peeno DeMasse. Fast forward to marriage and the birth of her 3 children, Paula, Rocky and Candy. Mom loved to knit, crochet, play cards, cook, write poetry, purchase scratch tickets and bowl. She wrote jingles for greeting card companies and entered poetry competitions online, often competing against my brother. If there was an occasion, there was a poem. She worked for the Federal Social Security Administration for many years, retiring in 1984. She and my late sister Candy were made numerous trips to Foxwoods. She loved the slots! Mom and dad moved into Suffolk Manor many years ago and she made a new group of friends whom she hung out with at the hall. She was at any function that went on at the hall, movies, political gatherings, cookouts, group birthday parties, or just to hang out and kill time, chewing the fat about the old days. She was a registered and active voter. She was active on the internet with an Amazon account and a Facebook page. She was an avid player of Words with Friends. One of the greatest late in life delights for her was the birth of her great-grandson Jack who just turned 2. She was the devoted wife of the late Anthony J. "Peeno" DeMasse. She leaves a son Anthony DeMasse and his wife Pamela of Reading, her daughters, Paula C. OBrien and her husband, Dan OBrien, and the late Helene (Candy) Dami and her husband Peter Dami. Her grandchildren Christopher and Michael Dami; Matthew, Jared, and Dustin OBrien; Mark, Brian, Ashley and Tom DeMasse; and her great-grandson Jack DeMasse-Furrier and many neices and nephews, as well as her son-in-law Peter Dami of Florida. Dear sister of the late Frank and Michael Messina. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend a Funeral Service in the Carroll Funeral Home, 721 Salem Street, (Maplewood Square) MALDEN on Thursday, April 4th at 11 o'clock. Visiting Hours in the Carroll Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
