Carol M. Sanders 83, of Lewiston, died Monday June 2, 2014 at d'Youville Pavilion after a long illness. She was born in Wakefield, MA on February 22, 1931 a daughter of the late James A. and Thelma L. (Foss) Hiltz. She also was the wife of Robert L. Sanders who predeceased her. Before retirement, she was a nurses aide for many years working at Dexter House Nursing Home in Malden, MA, as well as a receptionist for Dr. Carmen Guida, Optometrist, Malden, and office assistant at American Gutter Cleaning & Installation, Inc, of Tewksbury, MA. Carol had also been a Sunday school teacher with her beloved husband, Robert at The Christ United Methodist Church in Malden. Carol was a very faithful and active member of The Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Lewiston, ME. She made a special blanket for every member of the church. She was a very caring person who got great satisfaction helping out others and loved everyone unconditionally. She enjoyed traveling to Bonita Springs, Florida with her daughter. Her favorite eating place in Bonita Springs was Doc's Beach House. Carol had a love for music, especially the violin. She loved spending time with her grandsons and often reminisced about their childhood activities like attending their hockey games. She moved to Maine to be closer to her twin sister, Helen Shelton. Carol often went on fun journeys with Helen and niece, Dianna Carr. She leaves her daughter Carol Lee Rocha and her husband Jose of Tewksbury, MA, two sisters Helen M. Shelton of Auburn, ME and Diane Smith of FL, a brother James A. Hiltz and wife Shelah of Wrentham, MA, two grandsons Joseph L. Rocha and Mark P. Rocha and wife Erin, a great granddaughter Megan Maria Rocha all from Tewksbury, MA and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Ruth Arpan of Michigan. A graveside service will be held on Saturday June 21, at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn, ME at 10 AM. A Memorial Service will follow the graveside service at Thomas Memorial Baptist Church 62 Strawberry Ave. Lewiston, Maine 04240.
