Anne V. McGovern Ann V. McGovern MANSFIELD Anne V. (McCorey) McGovern, 90, of Mansfield, MA, formerly of Norwood, MA, and Eagle Lake, FL, wife of the late William "Bill" McGovern, died on October 19, 2013, in Wrentham, MA, of cardiopulmonary arrest. Born in Boston, MA, she graduated from Girls' Latin High School, Boston. A long-time Norwood resident, she was a former president of the Norwood Catholic Women's Club. She was the co-owner of the very popular McGovern's Restaurant on Rt. 1 in Walpole, MA, before moving in 1970, to Eagle Lake, FL, where she was a proprietor of a motel and an assisted-living facility. She was active in Eagle Lake city politics, serving as Councilwoman and City Mayor, during a period of city growth and municipal expansion. After leaving city politics, she was an active member of the Eagle Lake Chamber of Commerce, and an energetic participant and board member of several area social clubs. She moved to Mansfield, MA, in 2006, to be closer to her children. She leaves behind son William and his wife, Virginia, of Alexandria, VA, son Robert and his wife, Mary Ann, of Derry, NH, daughter Barbara (McGovern) Harris and her husband, Lenny, of Norwood, MA, daughter Beverly Cherry and her husband, Arthur, of Naples, FL, and son Stephen and his wife, Michele, of Mansfield, MA, as well as 15 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Anne was the oldest of 5 children, and is survived by her two sisters, Alice Mullins of Miami, FL, and Mary Kearns of Lighthouse Point, FL. In accordance with her wishes, funeral arrangements will be private. |
