James A. Byron Obituary
James Anthony Byron, of Mansfield Ma, passed away Sunday, Feb. 9th 2014 at his home in Pinehurst. James was born 19 November 1935, in Dorchester MA to the late Daniel Sylvester Byron and the late Cecelia Ward Byron. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Janine Byron De Lisle and his sister Maureen Bennet. The family had a private gathering at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines on Tuesday afternoon. A memorial ceremony will occur at a later date. James is survived by his wife of 55 years Joan P. Byron; sisters Theresa Duffee and Carol Hennen; brothers Joseph and Robert Byron; sons Dr. John Walter Byron and wife Kathleen, James Arthur Michael Byron and wife Jennifer, Jeffery Allen Byron and wife Shirley; daughter Jennifer Kathryn Colby and husband Kevin; Son-in-law Georges De Lisle; Grandchildren Sarah Elizabeth Byron McClamroch and husband Bryce, Julia Rebecca Byron, Alexandra Skylar Byron, Austin James Byron, Ian Thomas De Lisle, Noah Tyler De Lisle, Dominic Charles Colby, Timothy Patrick Byron, Lorelei Julia Colby and Daniel Patrick Byron; and many nieces and nephews. James was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by his family for his sense of humor, outstanding moral character and sense of responsibility. He was an artist known for his pen and ink drawings, as well as a lover of music and dance. James spent his early years in Gorham, New Hampshire where as a young teenager he was awarded a Medal of Valor from the American Legion and made a member of the 40 and 8 for saving a young boy from drowning. He was a US Navy veteran honorably discharged in 1957. James worked in retail for most of his early career but had a variety of other occupations to support his family. James and Joan lived in Mansfield, Ma. for 45 years before relocating to Pinehurst to be closer to family in 2010.
