Edward P. Curley Jr.

Edward P. Curley, Jr, 79, formerly of Wenham, died peacefully on February 3, 2018 after a long illness. Born in 1938 to Edward Sr and Theresa (Savio) Curley, Ed spent his childhood years in Lynn where by chance he would meet Wendy Shaw, visiting her relatives, at age three. Years later, after moving from Lynn to Marblehead Ed would again connect with Wendy (of Swampscott) and begin a relationship that lead to 51 years of marriage. Ed was a devoted and caring husband until Wendys untimely passing in 2013. After graduating from Yale in 1960, Ed worked at Clevite Transistor in what was the beginning of the semiconductor age. As a talented engineer he moved onto EG&G where he was an apprentice under Harold Doc Edgerton (the inventor of the strobe light and innovator of modern sonar technology). It was during this period that Ed and Wendy married and moved to a small house in Hamilton. With some support from family and friends, Ed left EG&G to start EPC Labs. With very little money in the bank, and three young sons, he built the company into a successful international business, selling the most advanced sonar plotters in the world. With the business established, Ed and Wendy moved to Wenham where they raised their boys through college and into adulthood. Over these years Ed had no greater happiness than spending time up at the family camp up on Winnipesaukee. He would build furniture in his boathouse workshop and go for boat rides around Varney Point with Wendy. Then, the two would often share cooking responsibilities for the most important event of the day, dinner. Ed is survived by his three sons, Michael Curley and his fiance, Maureen Kieran, Ted Curley and his wife, Carrie, John Curley and his wife, Sheri and seven grandchildren, Daniel, Samantha, Madison, Erin, Aidan, Jack and Mike. He also leaves behind beloved in-laws, cousins and nieces in the Shaw and Harris families. Ed was a private man of few words, believing actions were what mattered most. His legacy is that of honesty and grace, intelligence and substance. His thoughtful and steady way will be missed. His memorial service will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
