Nancy Fallon Obituary
Nancy Davis Fallon passed away peacefully Monday, October 16th at Grosvenor Park Nursing Center in Salem, MA, with her family by her side. She was born at the Mary Alley Hospital in Marblehead in 1942. Nancy attended St. Marys School in Lynn and graduated from Marblehead High School in 1960. After graduating from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, where she specialized in printmaking, Nancy worked in advertising at Mazlow, Gold & Rothschild in Boston, and later managed the needlepoint department at the Womens Educational and Industrial Union. After raising her family, she headed the Museum Shop at the House of Seven Gables in Salem for over twenty years. Nancy and her husband, Peter, were lifelong members and long-time leaders at the Church of the Holy Name in Swampscott. A former president of the Marblehead Garden Club, Nancy had an uncanny, encyclopedic knowledge of Latin plant names. Her flower arrangements and garden tours were legendary, and the perennial gardens at her home remain her lasting legacy. She was also an avid and unabashedly competitive tennis player on the courts of the Beach Club, where she and Peter were members. Nancy met Peter, the love of her life, in high school. They married in 1967, and together they raised their two boys in Marblehead. They enjoyed many family trips to Cambridge Beaches in Bermuda, where they explored the island with Nancy clinging to the back of Peters moped. Nancy parented with a sense of humor, calling her kids back for dinner with a slidewhistle from the steps of her house on Amherst Road. Nancy was also a consummate hostess, with an affinity for Port Merion china and pressed linens for every occasion. She decorated for every holiday with glee and whimsy, including Easter baskets for her family long after they were grown, and a towering tree at Christmas, complete with elaborate lights, generations of decorations, and her beloved, truly terrifying, antique dolls hidden in the branches. Nancy had a large and devoted circle of friends, many of whom she met in elementary school. She was tough, fair, and could be counted on for good, honest advice no matter the circumstances. Although she struggled with a long-term illness in the last decades of her life, it was a life lived to the fullest. Her strong character, wonderful sense of humor, and empathy is carried on by her granddaughters. Nancy is survived by her two sons, Bill Fallon of Marblehead and Matt Fallon of Swampscott, her daughters- in-law Loretta Fernandez and Lindy Aldrich, her grandchildren Elinor, Mimi, Kit, and Tess, and her sister, Ruth Filias of Salem. Her husband, Peter Fallon, predeceased her in 2010. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 20, 11AM, at The Church of the Holy Name, 60 Monument Avenue in Swampscott, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Church of the Holy Name, 60 Monument Avenue, Swampscott, MA 01907. Arrangements by Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North St.) Salem, MA 01970. For additional information or online guestbook please visit www.MurphyFuneralHome. com or call 978-744-0497.
