Mr. Robert I. Johnson, age 80, of Swampscott, died Friday after a brief illness. He was the husband of Toyo (Onishi) Johnson, with whom he shared nearly 52 years of marriage. Robert lived in Swampscott for the greater part of his life, and was the son of the late Iver K. and Margaret L. (Myott) Johnson. Robert served in the United States Army for 22 years, from 1957-1975. He also worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed working with his hands and using tools to build and fix things. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and skiing. He also loved sports. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters; Margarett Ardman and her husband Blair and Toyo Johnson and her husband J.D. Opdyke, all of Marblehead; as well as four grandchildren; John MacDonald, Rebecca and Daniel Ardman and Nicole Opdyke. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, August 8, at 11:15 AM in Swampscott Cemetery. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited.
