Thomas Edmund Burke Jr., age 85, of Swampscott, died on Monday February 18, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a five year battle with cancer. He was the husband of Jennie N. (Gambale) Burke, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Born and raised in Lynn, he was the son of the late Thomas and Gladys (Rabideau) Burke. A graduate of Lynn Classical High School, class of 1945, he had lived in Swampscott for the majority of his life. After his graduation from high school, Thomas enlisted in the US Navy and served from 1945-1947. Thomas had worked for the former James W. Daly (now Cardinal Health) Pharmaceutical Company for 45 years. He had a tremendous passion for health care and making a difference in a patients life. He retired in 1989 as the Vice President of Sales. Thomas greatest love in life was his family; as a father and grandfather he enjoyed attending all of the many events that his family was involved with. He also had a love for the Tedesco Country Club, where he was a member since 1955. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Kathleen Danahy and her husband Stephen, of Swampscott, a son Thomas Burke III and his wife Mary, of Swampscott, a brother William Burke, of New York, 8 grandchildren Jason Danahy and his wife Cathy, Michael Noone and his wife Sara, Amy Symes and her husband Michael, Brett Danahy and his wife Caryn, Stefani Danahy, Thomas Burke IV and his wife Katie, Jennifer Burke and her fianc Robert DeMagistris, and Brian Burke, 5 great grandchildren Emily, Maggie, Laura, Hannah, and Jackson, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Marguerite Peggy Danahy and her late husband Chris, and the brother of the late Joan LaPointe, Robert, James, and Richard Burke. His Funeral will be held on Friday at 9am from the Solimine Landergan and Richardson Funeral Home 67 Ocean St. (RTE1A), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am in St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott. Burial will be in Swampscott Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Thursday 4pm-8pm.
