Mr. William J. Landergan, Jr., 84 years, longtime Lynn Funeral Director, of Marblehead died Sunday March 3, 2013 unexpectedly in Salem Hospital. He is the husband of Mrs. Mary T. (Murphy) Landergan. He was born in Lynn, the son of the late Judge William J. and Gertrude Landergan. He was raised in Lynn, attended Lynn Schools and was a 1946 graduate of St Marys Boys High School. While at St. Marys he developed long lasting friendships. He was also a graduate of New England Institute for his studies in Funeral Directing. He lived in Lynn most of his life and in Marblehead since 1978. Bill was a WWII Army veteran who served in Korea. Bill enjoyed boating, skiing and golf. Bill played golf for 60 years. Bill was a member of the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead, a former member of the Tedesco Country Club and the Salem Country Club. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 70 in Lynn and a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. . He was a longtime member of the Lynn Kiwanis Club. Bill was a funeral director since 1949. He first opened the Landergan Funeral Home on Nahant Street in Lynn. Throughout his 64 year career, Bill is credited with serving many Lynn, Nahant and Swampscott families. In November of 1996 the Landergan Funeral Home merged with the Solimine and Rhodes Funeral Home to create the Solimine, Landergan and Rhodes Funeral Home. In addition to his wife Mary with whom he shared 61 years of marriage, he leaves two sons William J. Landergan III and his wife Kathe of Marblehead, James F. Landergan and his wife Cathy of Marblehead, his daughter, Linda L, Hanratty and her husband Dr. James Hanratty, of Marblehead, his grandchildren, Olivia A. Landergan of New York City, William J Joe Landergan, Sean T.J. Landergan, Hannah Landergan, Ryan J. Hanratty, Allison T. Hanratty, and Meagan A. Hanratty all of Marblehead. He leaves his sisters, Gertrude Trudy Landergan of Nahant, Pauline A. Polly Casey of Saugus, Marylou Gallagher and her husband Jack of Northboro. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and countless friends. He is the brother in law of the late Joseph D. Casey. Bills funeral was held on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 9:00 AM in the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean Street (rte 1A) Lynn followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church, Marblehead at 10:00 AM. Burial in Waterside Cemetery. Relatives and friends were invited. Visiting hours were on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Directions and guestbook at www.solimine.com
