Joseph G. McLaughlin, 75, of Marblehead, MA., passed peacefully July 8, 2014. Beloved husband of Mary B. (Glynn) McLaughlin for 47 years. Dear and devoted father to Joseph, Kevin, Colleen (husband Ali Komeyli), Michael (wife Kim York), and James (wife Rachel). Loving grandfather to Kian, Mashti, and Finley. His love touched nieces, nephews, and extended family both in the US and in Ireland. Born to Joseph and Maureen McLoughlin of Kilchreest, Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland. Brother of Kevin McLoughlin of Dublin, Ireland, and predeceased by sisters Anna Glynn and Mary Morgan of Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland. Joe attended Garbally Secondary School, Dalgan Seminary, Boston State Teachers College, Boston College, and University College Dublin. Dedicated teacher, mentor, and coach in the Swampscott School System for 33 years, where he established the town soccer program, and coached the Big Blue varsity soccer team ("potentially the best"). Joe was an active member of Our Lady, Star of the Sea parish in Marblehead, MA., where he devoted his service to being a founder of the ecumenical council involving churches and temples on the North Shore. He was also a frequent volunteer at St. John's Prep in Danvers, MA. Joes Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. Visiting hours at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St.) Salem on Thursday, July 10, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
