David Scattergood Obituary

David P. Scattergood, late of Englewood, Florida, recently passed away in Ballston Lake, New York. Mr. Scattergood, who was born in Orange, New Jersey in 1922, was 89 at the time of his death. Mr. Scattergood spent his youth in New Jersey, one of three brothers raised by his widowed mother, and then earned his B.S in business from Rutgers University. He spent several years in India with General Motors before returning to the United States and marrying Elizabeth Hutchinson in 1952; they were married for 52 years when she died in 2004. After a long career of working for public companies, he went into small business, running two family-owned companies specializing in security, burglar, fire alarm marketing and monitoring. The Scattergoods had three children and lived in Southborough, Massachusetts for over thirty-five years. Mr. Scattergood enjoyed boating, waterskiing, tennis and bicycling, often vacationing in Maine. He was an active member of St. Marks Church, where he served on the vestry and sang in the choir. He was also an active participant in the Lions and Rotary Clubs of Southborough, and he served on the planning board for the Town of Southborough for many years. He retired at eighty first to Peterborough, NH and then eventually to Englewood Florida. There he became involved with the Elks and the Englewood Isles Improvement Association. He is survived by three children: daughters Erica Scattergood of Groton, Massachusetts and Gwen Heekin of Ballston Lake, New York and his son David M. Scattergood of Hudson Massachusetts. He also leaves three granddaughters: Nora k. Kennedy and Christine S. Kennedy, both of Albany, New York, and Elizabeth S. Haynes of Groton, Massachusetts. He also leaves a close friend, Ms. Karen Gruschow of Englewood, Florida, and his brother, Edward Carter Scattergood, of Salt Lake City, UT. His burial will be private at the Rural Cemetery in Southborough, Massachusetts. Donations in his name are gratefully accepted by the Monadnock Conservancy or the Saratoga County Hospice in New York.
