James A. Carter Sr., 88, of Marshfield, formerly of Lady Lake, Fla. and Rockland, MA passed away Feb. 11, 2013 after a brief illness. He was son of the late Thomas E. Carter and Ethel (Lloyd) Carter. Loving father of James A. Carter Jr. and his companion Mary Martel, Thomas E. Carter Sr. and his wife Debra, Denise Cowing and her husband Mark of Rockland. Preceded in death by his son, John M. Carter and former wife Catherine E. (Gilmore) Carter. James also leaves Patricia Rizzo of Lady Lake FL. Devoted brother of Nikki R. Carter of Reno NV, Gladys Estabrook of Whitman, the late Paul Carter of VA and Lloyd Carter. Proud Grandfather of Thomas, Shawn, Shane and Gregory Carter, Ashley (Carter) Downey, Donald, Douglas, Krystal, and Morgan Cowing. As well as 7 great-grandchildren. James attended Weymouth South Technical High School. He worked as a rigger and crane operator for several Navy Yards over his long time career with the government. A disabled American veteran, James served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. A proud member of the DAV as well as a lifetime member of VFW Abington. James loved to travel having driven across country in his RV. As well as an avid NE sports fan, James enjoyed dancing. Following a private memorial service James will be buried at Bourne National Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations in James memory may be made to DAV Memorial Program - P.O.
