Alice Grady Obituary
Alice Carter (Sturgis) Grady, 85, a resident of Spring Arbor Cottage of Raleigh, NC and former resident of Acton and Stow, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2013. Alice was born November 17, 1927 in Portland, Maine, to William and Margaret Sturgis. Alice married John Joseph Grady Jr. on October 15, 1949. Alice was a Registered Nurse; she trained a Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA. She served on the Board of Health for the Town of Stow and she was a member of the Union Evangelical Church of Stow. She served on the Stow Historical Commission and the Ancient Documents Committee. Alice was the first female EMT of the Stow Fire Department. Alice did extensive family genealogical research and published a quarterly newsletter, The Bogg's Newsletter. In 1994 Alice moved to Acton, Massachusetts where she was a resident of Drumme r Farms. She continued her involvement in the community by being a member of the Council on Aging, The Genealogical Round Table of Concord and the Old Concord Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Alice was a lifetime member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, National Genealogical Society, the Genealogical Soociety of Pennsylvania and The Maine Historical Society. Alice was drawn to her family cottage in Maine each summer where would spend time with the family and the island community. Alice moved to Knightdale, NC in 2006 to be with her daughter, after she was diagnosed with Alzheimers. Alice is survived by her two sisters: Margaret Sturgis Ayer of North Franklin, CT and Joy Sturgis Foster of Hillsboro NH. Alice is also survived by her two children and five grandsons: Son: J. Grady and his wife, Peg and grandsons, Adam and Ben Grady. Daughter: Carrol G. Johnson and husband, Paul residing in Knightdale, NC, grandsons, Joe Johnson, David Johnson and Matthew Johnson. Alice is predeceased by her husband, John (Jack) Grady Jr. and her son: Peter Twitchell Grady of Stow, Massachusetts. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Isle of Springs, ME. Burial will be at the Brookside Cemetery in Stow, MA. Condolences at www.poolefuneral.com.
