Elena (DiFranza) Amante, 85, a Maynard resident for over 60 years, died peacefully Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill. She was the beloved wife of the late Placido "Frank" Amante, who died in 2008. Born and raised in East Boston, she was one of six children of the late Joseph and Filomena (Perrillo) DiFranza. Mrs. Amante centered her life around her husband, children and grandchildren, providing a loving home for her family. She was also employed for a time at the former Sears Roebuck in downtown Maynard. A longtime member of St. Bridget's Parish, she was a former member of the church choir for many years. Reading was her favorite pastime. Mrs. Amante is survived by three children: Philip Amante and wife Annmarie of Poquoson, VA, Elaine Alix and husband Alan of San Francisco, CA, and Paul Amante and wife Paula of Sandown, NH; 6 grandchildren, Daniel, Joseph and William Amante, Jacqueline and John Amante, and Claire Alix. She is also survived by two brothers, Michael DiFranza and Emilio "Steve" DiFranza; a sister Marie DeSisto; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, June 27th from 5:00-8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 28th at 9:00am in St. Bridget's Church, 1 Percival Street, Maynard, with burial following in Glenwood Cemetery, Great Road (Rte 117) Maynard.
