Gerald F. Browne Obituary
Gerald F. (Jerry) Browne - of Marlborough, formerly of Acton and Mission Hill, died on Monday, July 16, 2018. He was the son of Jeremiah and Brigid (Cunningham) Browne, late of Mission Hill and Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Barbara (Burke); a brother Rev. Robert M. Browne of Boston; 5 sons; Christopher and wife Angela of Acton, MA; Michael and wife Catherine of Windham, NH; Gerald and husband Wally of Natick, MA; Thomas of Marlborough, MA and partner Sherry; and Patrick of Kingston, MA. Also survived by seven grandchildren and three nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Irene (Browne) Cotell and Catherine Browne. Jerry attended Cathedral High School in Boston. He was a graduate of Boston College in 1956 and went on to receive his Masters from Boston College in 1957. With his hard work ethic he rose from a stock boy at Jordan Marsh & Co. to a Senior Financial Manager for Polaroid Corporation until his retirement in 1999. He was also a decorated Captain in the U.S. Navy, serving 30 years in both active duty and the Reserves. As a longtime Acton resident he was involved in various community activities. He was the Director of the Acton-Boxborough Youth Hockey Association and a member of the Gourmet Club of Act on in the 1970s. He served on the Board of Trustees to the West Acton Citizens Library from 2006-2010, where he oversaw the librarys historical renovations. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church of Acton. He was a faithful servant to God and Country, a loyal Red Sox fan, proud of his Irish roots and a dedicated family man.
