Ellen Rita Kelliher, Esq., 58, of Somerville, MA, passed away on Monday July 1, 2013, in the loving embrace of her husband, Damian Musello and their daughter, Rita. The fifth of eight children, Ellen is the daughter of Veronica Kelliher and the late Edward W. Kelliher of Mechanicsburg, PA. Born in Hagerstown, MD, Ellen graduated from Trinity High School, Penn State and the New England School of Law in Boston, where she earned the New England Scholar and American Jurisprudence Award. When she found out her breast cancer
may well have been diagnosed earlier she worked with colleagues and drafted House Bill 1050, now pending before the Massachusetts legislature, which requires radiologists to notify women with dense breast tissue that a mammography alone may miss cancer and that they should also have an ultrasound. The bill is sponsored by State Reps Denise Provost and Ruth Balser. A shop steward for Loca l 26 of the Hotel Workers Union, Ellen helped organize hotels in the 1980s and 90s. As an attorney she represented Local 26 members. In solo practice she worked with Neighborhood Association of America (NACA) and Neighborhood of Affordable Housing (NOAH) to help first time homebuyers purchase their first homes. In 2008 she co-founded GreenHome Realty, LLC a Somerville realt y office dedicated to making energy issues a part of the realty transaction through green office standards , homebuyer education and working with developers of energy efficient housing.
