Roderick Eddy

Obituary Condolences

Mr. Roderick E. Eddy, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Wilmington Health Care Center, at age 87. Mr. Eddy was born on April 7, 1927 in Malden, son of the late Albert E. Eddy and Edith F. (Luce) Eddy. He was raised in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School. Mr. Eddy proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He received his Associates Degree from Wentworth Institute and Bachelors Degree from Northeastern University. Mr. Eddy began his career as a Draftsman for General Electric and worked in both the Everett and Lynn plants for over 10 years. After working with Honeywell for 25 years, Mr. Eddy retired as a Senior Buyer. Mr. Eddy was a member of Wyoming Lodge AF&AM in Melrose, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Boston. Mr. Eddy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He had a special skill for being able to take something apart and putting it back together better than it was before. In his spare time, he appreciated golfing, fresh water fishing, gardening, and cooking. Every Sunday morning began with a fresh batch of corn muffins, and for lunch, his famous fried bologna sandwich. A season ticket holder for the Boston Braves and Boston Whalers, Mr. Eddy liked attending live sporting events. He much preferred to go to Boston Garden or Fenway Park to watch a game over viewing it on television. Mr. Eddy was the beloved husband of Eileen (Renwick) Eddy with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Devoted father of Stephen R. Eddy and his wife Alicia of Duxbury, Janet E. Perron and her husband Ron of Hudson, and Gordon M. Eddy and his wife Frances of Westford. Cherished grandfather of Cameron Eddy of Duxbury, Malcolm Eddy of Duxbury, Trevor Perron of Hudson, NH, Rachel Perron of Hudson, NH, Alexander Eddy of Westford, Colin Eddy of Westford, and Griffin Eddy of Westford. Family and friends will honor and remember Rods life by gathering at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose during visiting hours on Sunday, August 24 from 2-6PM, and again for his Funeral Service celebrated on Monday at 10:00 AM. Interment with military honors presented by the US Navy in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Gifts in honor of Rod may be made to Wyoming Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. 326 Main Street, Melrose, MA 02176.
