Frances E. (Carney) Copeland, 89, of Haverhill and a former longtime resident of Andover and Melrose, died Friday, August 5, 2011 at Merrimack Valley Hospital. Born in New Haven CT, daughter of the late Peter and Hazel (Bowers) Carney, she was raised in Trenton, NJ and Melrose, MA, graduating Melrose High School and later attending a local business school. Mrs. Copeland served as a Communications Specialist in the U.S. Navy during WW II with the rank of Yeoman 3rd Class. Mrs. Copeland retired as a purchasing agent for Textron of Wilmington and previously was employed by the Andover Company. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Melrose, The Red Hat Society, and Toastmasters International. She was an active volunteer in her later years at Penacook Place and The Haverhill Public Library and as a reader in local elementary schools. The wife of the late Allen B. Copeland and mother of the late Judy Copeland, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas B. and Karen Copeland of Haverhill, a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Alan Booth of West Goshen, CT, a sister, Catherine Roberts of West Yarmouth, three grandchildren, Dylan Copeland, Julia Copeland, and Mark FitzHenry. Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to The Haverhill Public Library, 99 Main St., Haverhill, MA. Arrangements are under the direction of Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill.
