Anne M. (Sullivan) King, 83, of Franklin, died peacefully, with her family at her side, Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Milford Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Howard F. King Jr. who died in 2011. Born September 22, 1929 at home, in South Boston, a daughter of the late Edmund M. and Anne M. (Irwin) Sullivan, she was raised and educated in South Boston. In 1958 she settled in Franklin, with her late husband and raised their family. While in Franklin, she took a job with the Woonsocket Call newspaper which she worked at for 24 years, retiring as bureau chief in 1992. Following her retirement, she became a public relations representative for Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School in Franklin for several years . Anne was a woman of great civic pride; she was the first female member and former president of the Franklin Rotary Club, the first female director at the former Benjamin Franklin Savings Bank and served as the clerk and served on the audit committee until 80 years old. She was devoted to St. Marys Church in Franklin serving as a Eucharistic Minister and a former member of its parish council and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was devoted to her family and grandchildren, and enjoyed all the Boston sports teams. Anne is survived by her eight children and their spouses; Anne Marie Rhoads and her husband Russel of Bluffton, SC., Kathy Jane King and her husband David Lorusso of Fresno, CA, Howard F. King III and his wife Diane of Cumberland, RI, James W. King and his wife Beth of Franklin, Patricia L. Derick and her husband John of Franklin, Thomas C. King and his wife Lydia of Orlando, FL, Shawn M. King and his wife Amy of Chico, CA, and Cindy Hughes and her husband Christopher of Franklin, fifteen grandchildren, four great- grandchildren, and a brother, Thomas Sullivan of Dorchester. She was the sister of the late Edmund, Frank, Walter, Robert, John, William Sullivan and Mary Bluemling. Relatives and friends were invited to attend her funeral Tuesday, May 7, at 9:15 a.m. from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St., Franklin, with a funeral Mass in St. Marys Church, 1 Church Sq., Franklin at 10 a.m. Interment followed in the parish cemetery.
