Bernard F. McCahill, 67, of Franklin, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, Monday April 22, 2013 following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Catherine A. (Ober) McCahill. Born May 27, 1945 in Norwood, a son of the late Bernard F. McCahill, Jr. and Stella (Songin) McCahill, he was a lifelong resident of Franklin. He was raised and educated in Franklin, and until his illness forced him to stop working, he was the owner and operator of Star Home Improvement. Bernard served his country honorably in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Thor; he attained the rank of SN and was discharged in January 1966. He treasured time spent with his family and friends, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed one. He was a longtime volunteer at the Feast of St. Rocco and the Franklin Fourth of July celebration. Bernard enjoyed watching all the Boston sports teams, traveling and gardening. In addition to his wife of 32 years, he is survived by his children; Bernard F. BJ McCahill IV of Franklin, Suzanne M. McCahill of Arlington, and Elizebeth M. McCahill of Franklin, and his sister Marilyn A. Bardetti of Andover. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral with military honors Friday April 26th, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. Franklin, with a funeral Mass in St. Marys Church 1 Church Sq. at 10AM. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
