Elizabeth A. Bransfield Obituary
Elizabeth A. (Byrne) Bransfield, 93, of South Natick, died at her home Friday, Feb. 15, 2013. Born in Washington, D.C., Mrs. Bransfield had lived in South Natick for more than 65 years. She was a graduate of Classical High School in Providence, R.I., and Pembroke College. She worked at the family-owned Wellesley Inn in Wellesley, and began a lifelong involvement in public service in the Town of Natick. Mrs. Bransfield (Libby) served as a Town Meeting member, Planning Board member and Chairwoman, Finance Committee member and Chairwoman, Metropolitan Area Planning Council representative and President, Town of Natick Planning Director, MBTA Advisory Board Representative and Vice-Chairman and finally Community Development Director. In these roles she was involved in many of the projects that transformed Natick. Among the most notable: the Natick Mall, expansion of Leonard Morse Hospital, the rebuilding and enlarging of the Morse Institute Library, and the new town center, including a new police and fire station, and a new town hall. As stated in the 1997 Natick Town Report's Dedication . . . " In each role Libby brought a special 'leadership' which quickly influenced those with whom she served to do their best and to act in Natick's best interest. This gift is Libby's legacy to Natick, and the reason that so many who served with her and for her held her in such high regard." She enjoyed a lifetime of summers on the Cape in Cataumet, Megansett and Pocasset and traveling with her family to Ireland, Italy, Alaska and England. She was the wife of the late Edward J. Bransfield, who taught mathematics at Natick High School for 32 years. She leaves a son, Stephen and his wife, Jane, of Bonita Springs, Fla.; her daughters, Ellen of South Natick and Ann Wallace and her husband, David, of Rye, N.Y.; grandmother of Kevin C. Wallace, Colin B. Wallace, Shannon Wallace Weber, all of New York, N.Y., and Allison Bransfield Hjelmstad of San Francisco, Calif.; great-grandmother of Owen, Brenden and Henry Lifeso Wallace; sister of Agatha Stanard of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and the late James W. Byrne, formerly of Santa Rosa, Calif. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
