James J. McCormick

James Joseph McCormick, 49, of Newburyport, formerly of Needham, died peacefully after a courageous battle with melanoma Sunday, June 29, 2012. Devoted father to Cal and Hannah McCormick of Newburyport, he was the beloved son of James A. McCormick of Needham and the late Geraldine Ray; loving brother of Laurie McCormick Fischer and her husband, Gene, of Charlotte, N.C.; loving uncle and best friend of Michael A. Fischer and his fiancee, Tiffany Angeloni, of Norwood, Mark, Matt and Allison Fischer of Charlotte, N.C.; and loving nephew of Lorraine King of Needham, Jack McCormick of Marblehead and Maryjane Kelly of Hyde Park. Jimmy was a 1981 Graduate of Needham High School. He loved the ocean, skiing with his children, sports, vacationing with his family and friends. Jimmy battled his cancer without complaint and always with a sense of grace, putting others before himself. He was a fun-loving and compassionate man. He welcomed everyone into his heart and was much loved in return. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Mass. General Hospital, 9th floor, for the exceptional care they gave to Jim. A special thank you to Kimberly OHara, loving and supportive friend. The funeral is Friday, July 6, at 9 a.m., at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., Needham, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, Needham. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours are Thursday, July 5, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of James McCormick may be directed to support the Melanoma Research Fund.
