Mary Armknecht Obituary

Mary (Dawes) Armknecht of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Dover and Westport, MA, died November 25, 2012. She was the wife of Robert for 51 years and the mother of Robert Armknecht Jr. (and Karen) of Scottsdale, AZ, and of Susan Armknecht ( and Craig Tobias) of Groton, CT. Marys life was devoted to her family to whom she provided warmth and support and her unconditional love. Outside the home, Mary served on the Ladies Committee of the Museum of Fine Arts, as well as the Warrant Committee and the Board of Selectmen of the town of Dover. Mary was an accomplished horticulturalist, participating in the design of prize winning gardens in the New England Flower Show. She was a national horticulture judge for the Garden Club of America, and a member of the Noanet Garden Club, Perennial Planters Garden Club and the Little Compton Garden Club as well as the Handicraft Club of Providence and the Chilton Club. In addition to her immediate family, Mary is survived by two grandchildren (Caroline and Graham), her sister Gussie Stewart (& John), and brothers Harry (& Nancy), and Dexter (& Jeanne) and nineteen nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at St. Dunstans Church, Dover at 11 am December 10, 2012. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marys memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC, 20090.
