Obituary Condolences

Gerty S. (Stratmann) Taylor of Walpole, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon October 23rd, 2013 with her loving family at her side in Norwood Hospital after a sudden illness at the age 89. Born on April 18, 1924 in Bremerhaven, Germany; daughter of the late Christel Dietrich Stratmann and Christa (Meissner) Stratmann, and stepdaughter of the late Hans Broeker; Gerty was raised in Germany and immigrated to the United States as a young woman, residing in Needham for 55 years before moving to Walpole six years ago after the passing of her husband. Family was the most important aspect of Gertys Life. In her spare time she enjoyed dancing, cake decorating, and had a passion for caring for animals. She was a former member of the German Ladies Aide Society in West Roxbury, the Boylston Schul-Verein German Center in Walpole, the Needham Newcomers Club, and the Needham Pool & Racquet Club. Beloved wife for 58 years to the late Alfred R. Taylor. She is survived by her loving children Ralph Taylor and his wife Karen of Venice, Florida, Christine L. Hayes and her husband Tom of Walpole, Denise J. Taylor and her wife Michele Caron of Manchester, New Hampshire, and her cherished grandchildren Taylor, Amanda & Joey. In addition she is survived by her beloved cat "Midnight". A Private Graveside Funeral Service in celebration of Gertys Life will be held for her family at Newton Cemetery. Relatives & Friends were invited to attend a Memorial Gathering celebrating Gertys Life at the Chateau Restaurant, 404 Boston Providence Highway, Norwood on Saturday afternoon Nov. 2nd at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Gertys memory to the Medfield Animal Shelter, PO Box 271, Medfield, MA 02052.
