Blanche Sargent

Obituary Condolences

Blanche Annett Sargent died on July 8, 2013 at Atria Merrimack Place, Newburyport, MA. She was born in Lowell, MA on December 1, 1925, the daughter of Achille and Blanche (Drapeau) Gaulin. She was raised in Pawtucketville in Lowell MA and spent summers in Marblehead, MA. After graduating from high school in Lowell, MA, she went on to attend Lowell Technical College, majoring in mechanical engineering with a specialty in textile engineering and design. After receiving her Bachelors Degree, she worked in the mills in Lowell and taught textile engineering in the early 1940s at the LEcole Textile de St. Hyacinthe in Quebec. As part of her work she designed her own fabrics. Blanche was joined in marriage in Lowell with Thomas Sargent in 1949. They resided in Dalton, MA for 2 years before relocating for 20 years to Milford, NH. They eventually moved to Manchester residing on Mast Road. She enjoyed summers in Marblehead, MA, and spending winters as a retiree in Pembroke Pines, Fl. Blanche received numerous awards for art for the Milford Art Association; she taught art at Mount St. Marys High School in Nashua, NH; developed and taught her own nutrition-based program entitled Weight Works in Milford, NH; and operated a store with two friends called Wheat and Weeds. Blanche is survived by three children, Elaine Cohen, Jeffrey Sargent, and Diana Cleaveland; two grandchildren, Mandy LeTourneau and Maia Viglione; one great-grandson, Cole LeTourneau. She was preceded in death by her husband. Calling hours were held from 10 am to 11 am with the memorial Mass beginning at 11 am, in St. Marie Catholic Church, 378 Notre Dame Avenue, Manchester, NH on Friday, July 12, 2013.
