Newland L. Berry, affectionately known as Peter, died Mon. Dec. 9th, 2013 at the Life Care Center of Acton. He was the husband of the late Marilyn (Mill) Berry. Born and raised in Newbury, Peter was the son of the late Newland and Helen (Stanwood) Berry. He was educated in the Newbury and Newburyport, and spent most of his time working as a mechanic with his father for J.P. Marquand of Kents Island in Newbury. Peter was inducted in the US Army in 1944 and served honorably in the US and in the Pacific Theatre during WW II. In 1947, he was seriously injured in an accident while on leave and spent many months at the V.A. Hospital in West Roxbury, remaining under V.A. care throughout most of his life. Due to the injuries, Peter lived a very limited life, suffering from constant pain and was unable to do the things he most enjoyed. He was also predeceased by a brother, George W. Carl, also a WWII veteran who served under General Patton in Germany. Peter is survived by his devoted sister, Mary L. Joyal of Acton; his niece JoEllen Fredericks, and two grand-nephews, Daniel and Sean OLeary, all of Haverhill.
